22 Haviland ST. Gallery will be hosting an Artist Talk on Thursday night, April 19th at 7:00 ( I would get there early for a seat). All five artists are scheduled to discuss and explore their reasons for “why”: content, direction, inspirations, methods. This will certainly be a fun event for all of us. Four small ceramic objects, of my series “Fictive Beings”, are included. Two works on paper pieces and 11 paintings were accepted as well. There are more than 50 works in total in the exhibit.
There will be an Artist Talk on April 19, at 7:00 p.m. if you cannot make the event tonight.

In 05@22, I attempt to process, digest and play with imagery representing the fragmented times we live in today. Waste, salvage, and redemption are a theme. I’ve used discarded materials and combined these with paint, collage, and drawing. Some of the works are figurative in nature while other works are pushed to an expressive abstraction. Politics, advertising, graffiti, and street art each add influence to my search to process, mark and evict the chaos of the day.

I’m posting a few samples on my New Works Page, though these may change as I am continuing to work on all pieces for the next two weeks. I created the graphics for the group (gets me out of buying the wine!). I’ll be happily showing with some friends: Joe, Chris, Mauricio, and Frank. Joe, Chris and I all teach at NCC. Mauricio is a star graduate and attends Cooper Union presently.

MONOTHON 2011 @ CCP. November 19

I’m heading into the Center For Contemporary Print Making
CCP on Friday to print. Most likely, I’ll be working and re-working my figurative shapes. I draw at NCC during the open sessions and then rework this imagery into monoprints. Wish me luck. I’m relatively new at printmaking. I love the process but never really know how things might go. Save the date.

These are some of my recent figure drawings. While printing, I will use these as jumping off points and inspiration for expressive monoprints. I paint using etching inks, brushes, & rollers on a plexiglass plate. I then press these images onto paper/sometimes in two or three layers. These drawings will either be templates to start the process or I will use some of the lines, colors or shapes to spark a new direction and original print.

From late August until October, I am busy preparing for my class. I teach foundation drawing at Norwalk Community College. As you know if you’ve taught in your life time, to be a good teacher takes a lot of time and effort. My private lessons, through Art Org 911, are filling my calendar as well. I have several enthusiastic artists happy to learn how to use CS 5 programs. Its all good. Once things settle into a nice routine, I’ll be working in the studio towards a spring show at 22 Haviland Street Gallery. Joe Fucigna, Chris Durante and I plan to exhibit in March. My plan is to have many more Fictive Beings painted.

The Art Show on Sunday went well at Roton Point. I was especially grateful to get such positive feedback for my art and the newest work I’m focused on. My selection of drawings and prints of nudes was appreciated too. That was rewarding, since I love to draw the figure and never know quite where to place them when approaching galleries.
